- Using HTML to add new member
- Update HTML interface so that it is possible to add
new member into database by HTML form. On form member type is always ‘N –
New member’ (type cannot be chosen through HTML interface) and position is
empty/none.
- Chance to modify member information is not really
necessary. After a new member has been succesfully added to database, user
can be ‘brought’ to view list of members, where new member can be reviewed.
- When sending or ‘POSTing’ forms, HTTP protocol does
somethin like this:
- browser sends call using the row 'Content-Length:
23423' in HEADER section
and contents of form is in the BODY section (sections are separated by 2
CRs ).
- You can make the plain form page first and analyze in
what ‘shape’ browser sends the contents of form. Using this information yoe
arer able to create the code. The way how HTTP protocol works is well
specified in RFC document number 1945, which can be quite ‘heavy’ text to
read through.
Syntax is something like following:
Fieldname1=value1&Fieldname2=value2,etc.
- Protocol does alter some characters into its own
(like spaces, hyphens, special signs,
scandinavian alphabets(å,ä,ö), etc.) which can cause some problems. If the
program can
change/convert the special characters right (spaces, etc.) into database,
that will be enough for now.
